The Story Behind The Keystone

I started The Keystone in 2015 after taking on my first serious home improvement project—a 1920s brick building that needed far more attention than I initially understood. Over the next several years, I learned that finding reliable, knowledgeable professionals for masonry work, concrete restoration, and historic building repair is surprisingly difficult. Everyone has a recommendation, but few people really know what to look for.

Boston’s character comes from its buildings. More than that—the quality of those buildings depends on the people who maintain and restore them. After talking with dozens of homeowners, property managers, and contractors about what they’ve learned, I realized there was room for a directory that simply gathered the ones who consistently do good work. That’s what The Keystone became: a curated list of businesses that I’ve encountered directly or learned about from people I trust.

What’s Collected Here

The Keystone focuses on businesses that specialize in masonry, brick, concrete, and historic building restoration across the Boston area and Massachusetts. We’re not interested in breadth—we’re interested in depth. Each listing represents someone who knows their craft and takes pride in doing it well.

How It Is Ordered

The directory is organized by service type and geographic coverage. Each entry includes the business name, what they specialize in, their primary service area, and how to reach them. We don’t rank businesses or show reviews here—that’s what word-of-mouth is for. What we do is make it easier to find people who are genuinely good at what they do.

Everything listed here reflects my own vetting or the direct experience of people I respect. No one pays to be on this list. If someone is here, it’s because they’ve proven they’re worth knowing.
